The Brief
The client's son was training seriously in MMA and the family wanted a dedicated space at home for it. The basement at their Jumeirah Golf Estates villa was the room, and the priority was flooring built specifically for combat sports: shock absorption for throws and takedowns, joint protection, grip for footwork, and a finish good enough for a VIP home.
What We Did
We installed premium Zebra tatami mats, the 2 x 1 metre, 40 mm thick professional grade used in competition gyms, wall to wall. Rather than leaving the offcut gaps you get with a standard puzzle mat layout, every mat was precision cut to the exact shape of the basement so the edges are perfect and there is nothing to catch a foot on. Panels are fitted tight with no shifting, which is what makes the surface safe for grappling and striking rather than just soft.
The Equipment
- Zebra 40 mm tatami mats, 2 x 1 metre
- Wall to wall installation, custom cut to the room
The Result
A competition standard MMA floor in a family basement, ready for training from day one and safe for the athlete and the floor underneath. If you are asking for MMA flooring at home, this is the specification.
